Given the rumours surrounding Bolton Wanderers lately, it will come as a shock to precisely nobody that word is that our entire senior squad will refuse to take the field on Saturday in the league opener away to Wycombe Wanderers.
As reported by everyone’s mate Nicko, the (remaining) first-team squad have begun arbitration proceedings to release them from their contracts at the club, on the back of not having been paid in over five months.
Famously, this group refused to play against Brentford last season, on the grounds of wanting to deny former owner Ken Anderson any income from the fixture - a massive mistake and two fingers up at the fans, in my opinion - and things have gone from bad to worse ever since.
We all know that chief scout Tim Breaker hasn’t been paid for months too, but what we didn’t know until recently was that this meant that Wanderers haven’t had a scouting presence in the wider footballing world since, either.
This is proven by the links to the likes of Ched Evans, who was of course lined up to sign for us last Christmas.
So therefore Saturday is shaping up to an interesting day, for many reasons. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing how the kids do when thrown in at the deep end.
Long live the new Bolton Wanderers!
