It was men against boys today as Bolton Wanderers went down by five goals to nil against rivals Tranmere Rovers.
Wanderers, again forced to field a weakened side (insert Jason Lowe joke here), were outfought by an older and stronger Rovers side. Which isn’t to say that the lads didn’t reach the heights of the Wycombe and Coventry games, because they absolutely did.
With the main changes being the return of Lowe, Matthews and Murphy, Bolton had to suffer the loss of influential defender Liam Edwards and creative spark Dennis Politic.
Matthews, inexplicably linked with a move to clubs in the Championship and Premier League earlier in the summer was recalled over Matthew Alexander who played so well last week. I really don’t see what Parkinson obviously does in the ex-Norwich keeper.
So the game was what it was, and I’m sure the Tranmere fans will enjoy crowing about the result for years to come. Personally I’m not losing any sleep over it.
There are more important things going on in the world of Bolton Wanderers and today’s result can only serve to give those in charge at Football Ventures the impetus to get things done ASAP. Without a speedy resolution these lads are only going to experience more days like today.
Get it done.
