Ranking Bolton Wanderers Kits
I love seeing all the new kits being released every season. The anticipation as to whether your team have a nice home shirt or a dodgy third kit is exciting for a football fan and there have been a couple of beauties this year, Inter Milan’s away shirt is one of my favourites. As Bolton Wanderers are still yet to have an official kit for this season I’ve found myself watching YouTube videos of “Ranking the best new kits of the 19/20 season”, which made me go through some of my favourite Wanderers shirts through the years. Please take this with a pinch of salt as it’s really not a definitive list, just a bit of fun and I’ve probably missed out your favourite - it’s nothing personal!
It’s worth saying I do like the current Hummel stock shirt we have been playing in but when the club finally unveil our actual kit for the season I’m hoping for a modern remake of the 1977-82 Umbro classic. Preferably without a massive colourful betting sponsor in the middle, however any sponsorship money coming into the club has to be good right? Anyway, here’s the list.
10 - 2001-2003 Home Kit
The earliest kit I can personally remember Bolton playing in. (I would’ve been five when this was released) My mates used to rip into me for being a Wanderers fan back then when we were in the Premier League with a world cup winning player in Youri Djorkaeff. Imagine what they’d say now!

9 - 2018/19 Third Kit
The only third kit on the list! A kit I’d be happy to wear out, not just at a match. Royal blue and the sharp collar make this a winner. Shame it makes me think of the horrible season we had last year.

8 - 2013/14 Home Kit
The last home kit I actually really like (Apart from the new stock Hummel one) Adidas know how to make football shirts. The only downside to this one is the big sponsor in the middle. Chungy may have needed a smaller size too!

7 - 1993-1995 Home Kit
I actually got this from my dad for Christmas last year and the sleeves are MASSIVE. Proportions aside, it’s a lovely shirt. The red white and blue mix well together and the faded Reebok logo in the white complements the overall look. I’m not usually a fan of club crests in the middle of a shirt but it feels right on this one.

6 - 2003-2005 Home Kit
We came 6th in the Premier League with this as our home kit. It immediately makes me think of Jay Jay Okocha banging in free kicks left right and centre - the glory days.

5 - 2004/05 Away Kit
A little bit different than usual but the colours complement each other perfectly. I’m not sure I liked this one too much in the 04/05 season but looking back it’s definitely grown on me. Does anyone have one I can buy? Size large preferably.

4 - 2007/08 Home Kit
This is classic Reebok Bolton Wanderers. The red stripes are a nice addition too. This one was worth your hard earned money.

3 - 1977-1982 Home Kit
Umbro have brought the logo stripe style back in recent years, I’d love to see this one remade for the super whites...maybe without the collar though.

2 - 2007/08 Away kit
Elegance, grace and class are three words that come to mind when trying to describe this kit. We’ve not had one this smart in a while. Just thinking about Anelka, Nolan & Speed playing in this on a cold Tuesday night gives me goosebumps.

1 - 1956-1962 Home Kit
It had to be! It doesn’t get much more iconic than Nat Lofthouse lifting the FA cup trophy in this classic. A big red Lancashire rose, plain white, smart v-neck with matching sleeves. A true beauty.
