Matthew Gilks: 7
He’s like having a defensive manager on the pitch the way he orchestrates his defence. Was comfortable with his saves when needed, but his organization skills are a big reason he doesn’t need to spring to life in goal
Peter Kioso: 9
A constant threat and becoming more confident as time goes on. In Tuesday’s game he was increasingly taking up more central areas of the pitch much like his left-sided counterpart, Gethin Jones. Lovely cool finish but what made it easy was his positioning. Impressive stuff.
Alex Baptiste: 8
Looks a different player, particularly in possession. Has a real coolness about his play and seems to be cutting out the wayward medium-range passing which was the most problematic area of his game. I’m sure Andrew Tutte’s emergence has played a big part in that specific improvement but it is very encouraging to see Baptiste stepping up and being a key part of this team. Was great to see him pushing up into the final third to allow Wanderers to overload Scunthorpe’s left side.
Ricardo Santos: 7
Turning into a consistent performer for Bolton
Ryan Delaney: 6
Scrappy performance from Delaney and seems he and Gethin Jones were targeted as the area where Scunthorpe felt they were likely to get most success.
Gethin Jones: 7
I like Jones, a lot. I like how much he wants to impact the game. If he had a little more coolness around the goal area I think we’d see 5/6 goals from him this season. Our midfield three have certainly benefitted from his introduction to that left hand side.
Andrew Tuttle: 10
I’ve awarded very few 10’s in my time at LOV but I couldn’t fault a single part of Tutte’s magnificent performance. He’s the glue of everything, I’m not saying anything here you haven’t seen yourself. He also reads the game superbly and I really hope he can continue his brilliant start to his Bolton career because he could have a real impact at this huge club if he does.
Ali Crawford: 6
Looking to score from distance a little too often for me. Was tidy in possession.
Antoni Sarcevic: 6
A lively start but it felt as though his effect on the game waned as the match progressed. You will not find any complaints from me though, his form of late has been of a very high standard and he’s a constant goal threat which you can see plays on the mind of his opponents, which in itself creates opportunities.
Nathan Delfouneso 7
Absolutely fantastic in his play for the Wanderers goal and showed once again why he is probably our most impactful player, particularly in these tighter games. Fonz has that little bit of magic and I don’t think it is a bold shout to suggest if we are to really kick on this season, he will have a leading role to play. Although, he does look a little jaded, Wanderers busy fixture list looks like it is taking it’s toll on him a little.
Eoin Doyle: 7
Looked very lively and on another day could have had one or two.
