The reports coming out of the Barking & Dagenham post this morning suggest that Bolton are in the running for former West Ham Academy Graduate, Manny Onariase. Onariase has spent the past two seasons at Dagenham & Redbridge, making a permanent move in July 2019 after a successful loan spell the season prior.

The article states:

“Dagenham & Redbridge could face losing defender Manny Onariase with League Two clubs Leyton Orient and Bolton Wanderers reportedly interested.
The 23-year-old is now out of contract unless they’ve managed to strike a deal and whether Daggers could keep him is a big question with interest from the Football League.”

Dag & Red are yet to publish their retained list, but the Non-League outfit are expected to struggle to keep hold of one of their prize assets.

Brentford signed Onariase for an undisclosed fee from West Ham in January 2016, where he joined up with their development squad. After impressing, he received a number of first team call ups but failed to make a first team appearance for The Bees. He was loaned out to Cheltenham Town in 2017, playing 24 times in League Two from January until the end of the season.

On Deadline Day in 2017, Onariase was subject to another undisclosed bid, this time from League One side Rotherham. He joined the Millers on a two year deal, but failed to make a league appearance and was loaned out again to Cheltenham.

The following season, Onariase was sent out on loan again to the National League. This time, he impressed at Dag & Red where he signed a permanent one year deal following the expiration of his contract at Rotherham.

Onariase made 28 league appearances last season, scoring two goals and being dubbed their most consistent and one of their best players during the shortened season.

It is reported that Bolton face competition from Leyton Orient for the signature of Onariase who is currently a free agent having not agreed an extension at the Daggers, at time of publish.

This past week, there have also be murmurings of Wanderers chasing both a goalkeeper and a left-back from Dag & Red. It sounds as if Evatt was a fan of what he saw at The Daggers when he faced them with former club Barrow.

Will Onariase become a Bolton player this summer? Will be play a part in the Evatt-lution of Bolton Wanderers?
