According to reports from this mornings The Sun, Bolton Wanderers are currently leading the race to sign striker Eoin Doyle.

The 32 year old was by far & away the top goalscorer in League Two last season with 25 goals, as he helped Swindon Town claim the League Two title. Initially a loan signing, Doyle signed for Swindon permanently in January on a six month deal.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon has claimed that Wanderers have made the best offer to sign Doyle on a free transfer, with Swindon still deciding whether to match the offer. Mansfield & Salford City are also thought to be interested.

Signing a player like Doyle would be a huge statement of intent for Wanderers, as Ian Evatt looks to add names to his blank canvas.

Nixon has also stated that Wanderers have interest in two other players; former captain Jay Spearing & Irish attacking midfielder, Jamie Devitt.

Would Spearing drop to League Two with Sunderland interested? Would he suit Evatt’s style and philosophy? Who knows.

29 year old Devitt is currently on the books at Blackpool & spent last season on loan with Bradford City.
