According to The Sun reporter Alan ‘reluctantnicko’ Nixon, Bolton Wanderers are set to seal the signing of wantaway Accrington Stanley striker, Dion Charles.

Nixon posted on twitter earlier:

“Bolton. Charles should be one of first deals of window. Decent fee too. Around 300. Long time since that was spent on a player. Reasonable sum for Accrington Stanley too.”

Charles’ fantastic form for Stanley last season, where he netted 20 goals in all competitions, saw his stock rise and was linked with multiple Championship sides over the Summer. A reluctance to sign a new deal at the Wham Stadium has seen his game time limited this season, scoring just once in eight games. He hasn’t appeared in a Stanley matchday squad since September.

Wanderers do need to bolster their forward line, given the amount of chances we create compared to the amount we’ve scored in recent games. With his form last season, it would seem Charles would tick a lot of boxes in that department.

It’s been three and a half years since Wanderers last put up a transfer fee for a player - of course being the £250,000 spent on Josh Magennis from Charlton Athletic.

Before that, it was the nominal fee spent bringing Filip Twardzik to Bolton from Celtic in the 2015 January transfer window.

Financial troubles and embargoes have ensured that Wanderers haven’t been able to splash the cash, so spending money to bring Charles in just shows how comfortable the club are at the moment.

We had a tremendous January window last year when we didn’t have the ability to spend money, so hopefully we can repeat that with the shackles off and a little bit of a bigger net to search for new talent.

Is £300,000 a good fee for a player like Charles? Let us know in the comments below.
