Bolton Wanderers have just won their sixth game in row - beating Oldham Athletic 2-0 at Boundary Park.
The game had everything. A dominating performance, a red card, records breakers, Santos bowling over a teenager & more possession than humanly possible.
After a shaky start in which the hosts looked more likely to open the scoring, Wanderers hit back and took the lead in smart fashion twenty minutes in. The ball was played out wide to Nathan Delfouneso, whose first time pass found an onrushing Gethin Jones inside the box. Jones’ cross was turned in by Latics defender Harry Clarke, who i’m sure will be devastated to have scored an own goal on his 20th birthday.
From there, the game was Bolton’s to win & they doubled the lead five minutes before half time. After a continued spell of passing, Dapo Afolayan’s shot from outside the box struck the post, before the rebound was bundled in by Eoin Doyle.
It was the Irishman’s thirteenth goal of the season - the first time since 2002 that a Bolton Wanderers player has managed to score more than twelve goals in a season. A nineteen year record gone.
It was a comfortable, professional performance from a Wanderers team who have no signs of slowing down.
Onwards to Bradford on Saturday. COYW!
