Bolton Wanderers go ten games unbeaten for the first time in fifteen years - as they beat second placed Cambridge United 2-1 at the UNIBOL to go within five points of the top.
The first half performance by Wanderers was simply sensational. Quite easily the best & most dominating Bolton have looked in the first half of game.
For a second, it looked like the ball just wasn’t going to go in for Bolton at all, though thankfully that changed just over five minutes before half time.
After great build up play involving Antoni Sarcevic & Gethin Jones, Eoin Doyle calmly struck the ball into the far corner to score his fourteenth of the season to hand Wanderers the lead.
It was two for Bolton just before the break. After Cambridge cleared a goal mouth scramble, Sarcevic struck on the volley from outside the box for his sixth of the season.
Wanderers weren’t as dominant in the second half, though still had chances to extend their lead. Dapo was very unlucky not to open his account for the club. Instead, Cambridge were given a golden chance back into the game.
After all those clean sheets, Matt Gilks sadly messed up as he let a rather tame looking effort from Knoyle slip past him into the goal.
Despite the nervy ending, Wanderers held on to close the gap to the automatic promotion places.
Another huge win with loads of unbelievable individual performances on display. We seriously need to do everything possible to keep Declan John & Dapo Afolayan next season.
