According to a story by Will Rooney for Portsmouth’s local paper The News, Bolton Wanderers are showing an interest in the recently released midfielder, Andy Cannon.
The News article states:
“However, with Danny Cowley plotting a major rebuild and wanting to freshen the squad up ahead of a renewed promotion push, Cannon was released.
The decision left sections of supporters surprised, with the 25-year-old being one of the standout performers when the Blues topped the table during the first half of the season
It’s likely Cannon won’t be short of admirers as a free agent this summer as he seeks his next challenge.
And it’s understood that Bolton are one side who are potential suitors.
A switch to Bolton would mean a move back to his Greater Manchester home for Cannon.”
Cannon began his career at Rochdale, making over 100 appearances before a move to Portsmouth in January 2019 for around £150,000.
Cannon scored three times in seventy-nine games for Pompey in a two & a half year spell.
The midfielder is primarily used in the centre, but has also filled in out wide when needed.
As we’ve seen in the past season with the likes of Sarce and Doyle, Bolton’s locality has been a huge factor in attracting players & could be if Cannon fancies a move back to the North West.
