Last night (Monday 29th), Alan Nixon teased on twitter that Bolton Wanderers were looking at bringing in a ‘very interesting new player’ in for training this week.

Now, he’s just revealed the name of the player - former Sheffield United, Everton and England centre back, Phil Jagielka.

Nicko stated this morning:

“Bolton. Keen on keeping Phil Jagielka in the game. Talks over coming in for pre season. Free agent after Sheff U. Other clubs interested too. But Evatt has a chance here.”

With nearly 700 career appearances to his name and forty England caps, the now 38 year old Jagielka has vast amounts of experience in the game.

As we saw with Alex Baptiste and Matt Gilks last season, experienced heads are vital to support the younger players and definitely improved our performances on the pitch.

Jagielka only played twelve times for The Blades in the Premier League last season. Though if he could stay fit, he could prove to be a shrewd signing as Wanderers look to build a team capable of competing at League One level.
