It’s not often I’m right. And I’m wrong again. Jón Dadi Bödvarsson, I owe you a full and unreserved apology.
The team’s shambolic performance at Burton Albion put a halt to an incredible run of form. It seemed the playoffs were tantalisingly out of reach for this year. I picked you out for particular scorn. I asked what it was you offered this team.
Now I know.
You harry defenders in possession. You link up with creative midfielders. And you score goals.
On Saturday, you connected with an inch perfect cross from Will Aimson to expertly guide the ball home. No goalkeeper can react quickly enough to a header as well executed as that.
Your goal ensured that the side took home a well deserved point against a very good Wigan Athletic side. With a better first half performance, we might have taken all three. It hurts to say it, but it’s true: Wigan will win the league, while we’ll miss out on the playoffs.
Let us use that disappointment to build a side that can challenge at the top of the league next season. And you, Dadi Cool, are an important part of that plan. With goalscorer Dion Charles and Twenty Goals too, we should have enough firepower to challenge for automatic promotion next year (as long as we improve defensively).
I’m so sorry, Dadi. I hope you can forgive me. Please keep proving me wrong by scoring goals in a Bolton shirt.
Fyrirgefðu, Dadi Cool.
