Bolton were pegged back on either side of halftime and went into the latter stages of the match down a goal. The club's captain, leader, legend, Kevin Davies, was the hero on the night with two goals from set pieces.

No one can really say that Bolton Wanderers deserved to walk out of the Reebok Stadium empty handed. The Trotters kept Leeds United for large portions (read: majority) of the match. Going 2-1 down thanks to a Luciano Becchio penalty kick just after the halftime break, Bolton were heading for their second home loss in as many games. Lucky for the men in white, the skipper, Kevin Davies, was up to the task and his brace saw Bolton get the point.

The result (depending on your point of view) seems to be enough to have held Owen Coyle's job off of the chopping block. We're not sure how much longer he has left or what the tipping point is for Bolton Wanderers. Until then, it's business as usual.

If you weren't able to see any of the match (because of course, there was no live video available), we wanted to give you a few visuals.

The match against Leeds United ended as a draw but it sure felt like a loss for Bolton Wanderers after they did so well to boss the first half.

Four games, four penalties for the opposition. Bolton Wanderers had more than a decent shout for a penalty of their own in each of the matches through opposition handball or a Bolton player being brought down in the box and yet nothing was given. Two of those penalties led directly to Bolton losses, one to a draw, and one that Bolton managed to regain the lead from. In what seems to be a recurring theme, manager Owen Coyle once again disagreed with the referees decision (and lack thereof).

"The first one should have been given on Keith, when he was totally upended, but it's so obvious. We had a stonewall decision. And then you get to Leeds. I'm loath to call it a soft award because it wasn't even that. Soft doesn't do it merit.

"But our performance level in the first half was outstanding, in terms of passing and the chances we created.

"Leeds like to play for free-kicks in the final third and we got caught with one just before half-time and we went in feeling aggrieved. Then you had the alleged challenge for the penalty. It should have been three points tonight, but we need to keep banging on the door and decisions can't go on being as cruel as they are. But we will take our medicine and come through the other side smiling."

Coyle also praised Super Kevin Davies, whose brace was enough to earn Bolton an arguably deserved point (and enough to earn our man of the match):

"I think Kevin Davies epitomised everything about the football club, not only in the way he took his goals, but his all-round play. "

Finally, Owen added his thoughts on the match itself:

"Leeds United will leave tonight wondering how they got a point. There's no doubt that anyone watching that game will have realised how big the gulf was between the two teams.

"Some of our play was outstanding and we probably could have secured the win, accepting that El-Hadji Diouf had a chance in the last minute.

"There's no doubt that we responded well to going behind and we need to maintain that standard from now on.

"We want to be sitting in the pole positions - we're not there yet, but we will be."

Could it be anyone else?

There are some Bolton matches that make it difficult to choose a MOTM because no player in particular distinguished themselves. There are some Bolton matches that make it difficult to choose a MOTM because so many players put in worthy shows, which are more fun to write, but none the less not easy. However, there are some when there is literally only one decision I could make. Last night against Leeds United, captain, legend, Mr. Bolton, Super Kevin Davies once again forced my hand.

It was an absolutely vital match for Bolton, and for some spells the team delivered and played some of the best football of the season. But throughout the entire match, whether things were going in Bolton's favour or not, Kevin Davies was putting in a classic SKD show. He has always been a controversial player, usually disliked by opposing fans for his physical, and slightly old-fashioned style. Against Leeds, he showed why he has been a solid favourite with the Wanderers faithful for the past 9 years.

The skipper scored both of the goals, both headers, that came from his innate ability to get behind the defense in the box, the tenacity to get on the end of crosses no other player can. His first goal came in the 14th minute, it lifted the team and gave them the confidence to put in one of the best halves of football they have the whole season. The second goal, in the 79th minute, rescued the result for Bolton and quite possibly Owen Coyle's job.

Kevin Davies is the type of player who will always have his critics, but last night showed while he has some of the most loyal fans in the modern game. Thank you, Super Kevin Davies.

Bolton Wanderers played much better today, and managed to pick up a point against an in-form Leeds United squad. Will it be enough for manager Owen Coyle to keep his job?

First, lets get the logistics out of the way. Bolton started very well in front of a skeptical home crowd. Kevin Davies opened the scoring with an assist from a Chris Eagles cross (This is basically our only means of scoring so far this season) on the 14th minute. Bolton proceded to dominate the rest of the first half. Leeds United were really pinned back, but still managed to equalize a few minutes before halftime. Our old friend El-Hadj Diouf provided the cross, and Samuel Bryam headed home.

Predictably, Leeds went ahead just after halftime. They did so by (predictably) winning a penalty. Bolton once again dominated play after that. Owen Coyle made a few changes, and eventually Kevin Davies equalized from a Martin Petrov cross very late indeed. Bolton pressed and pressed, putting the Leeds goal under siege for the final 15 minutes of the match, but just couldn't get a winner.

Now, on to the serious stuff. Bolton have 11 points from nine matches. According to the target Chairman Phil Gartside set at the beginning of the season (2 points per match), we should have around 18 points. Three points from four away matches, and eight points from five home matches. So, the million dollar (or pound, or Quetzale, or peso) question, has Owen Coyle done enough tonight to keep his job, at least for one more match?

In my opinion, yes. After Saturday's match at Millwall, there is an International break. If the board have decided that Coyle needs to be replaced, that seems to be the time to do it. Give the new man two weeks with most of the squad before our October 20th home match against Bristol City. But I don't think that will happen.

if I am perfectly honest, I think we are stuck with Coyle for the rest of the season. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is the reality. Gartside takes great care in choosing his managers (excepting Sammy Lee), and he is very slow to give up on them.

Right now we are 17th, three points clear of the relegation zone, but only five points from a playoff spot. However, as you may have read on Lion of Vienna Suite the other day, it is still too early to be looking at the table. That said, if we are still within three points of relegation in another six weeks, all bets are off.

To be honest, I will not be at all surprised if we beat Millwall Saturday. That is how Bolton Wanderers work under Coyle. Again, you may have read on Lion of Vienna Suite, we have been tremendously inconsistent. In fact, almost comically so.

That is my prediction. We played quite well today, despite allowing two goals ad only coming away with one point. I think we will play well on Saturday and get the win. That will put us into the international break on a high note, in the top half of the table most likely, and buy Coyle a good bit of time.

You, dear reader, are welcome to disagree with me, in fact I welcome it. That is why we have the comments section after all. I've also included a poll, so please, tell us what you think will happen in the great saga of Owen Coyle and the Mighty Bolton Wanderers.

Seemed like Bolton were just about down and out after Luciano Becchio got the go-ahead goal from the penalty spot. Bolton were doing much of nothing for most of the first half before Owen Coyle introduced Martin Petrov for Jay Spearing. Bolton went through a spell of multiple corner with Petrov delivering three in a row. The first two were pretty terrible and easily cleared by Leeds but the third time was the charm. A brilliant ball found its way to Kevin Davies and the skipper headed home once again, this time finishing into the top corner. The score was 2-2 on 79 minutes with Captain Super Kevin Davies scoring a brace.

Bolton looked like they were cruising throughout the half first half. The Wanderers were pretty much on the front foot through the whole of it and were close to going 2-0 up on a number of occasions. In typical Bolton fashion though, the Trotters did not take advantage and Leeds did.

In the 43rd minute, Leeds were awarded a free kick that El-Hadji Diouf stood over. The former Bolton forward sent the ball in and Leeds' Sam Byram headed home high to the far corner, past Adam Bogdan. The teams went into the dressing room level on goals.

It started poorly after the break, as it typically does for the Trotters. It was the defender Sam Byram causing trouble again, this time rushing into the box and stumbling over from a Stephen Warnock challenge. Luciano Becchio took the penalty kick for Leeds and sent Adam Bogdan the wrong way. Becchio's seventh goal in nine games sent Leeds 2-1 up on 49 minutes.

It was a typical Bolton Wanderers goal that gave the Trotters the lead in their match against Leeds United. Bolton were easily the better side in the first few minutes and created the first real chance of the match after a long range Chris Eagles shot stung the palms of Paddy Kenny and Mark Davies' follow-up attempt was blocked. A few minutes later, Leeds' Rodolph Austin deflected a Bolton ball out for a corner.

Chris Eagles stood at the corner flag and sent a trademark inswinging ball to the penalty area. Who else would be there but Super Kevin Davies? The ball found the head of the Bolton skipper who finished well with a header from six yards out. Bolton went 1-0 up on 15 minutes.

Chris Eagles was at it again just a few minutes later with another long-range effort, this time 25 yards out. His bullet of a shot smacked off of Paddy Kenny's post and Leeds caught a lucky break.
